Project 52{31}

Motherhood is:
assumptions
We think Kenzie is ready for potty training.  For a few weeks now she's recognizing what "poo-poo" is, and many times lets us know that there is some hanging out in her diaper.  She enjoys flushing the toilet, and proudly yells "see ya" as "everything" disappears.  She now has a Mickey Mouse potty to get use to, because she is OBSESSED with him (hence the new book). She'll sign potty and lets me follow her to the bathroom.  We go through the motions, which includes being completely naked, ...but so far no results. We aren't pushing it, but we assume, and hope she'll be a quick learner.
So tonight I decided we might as well get in the habit of eating a snack and skipping the liquids.  This picture makes me laugh every time I see it.  She makes mommy proud with a mouth full of cantaloupe and she makes daddy happy because as much as she loves "Me-mo," she sneaks a peak at the baseball game instead!

Motherhood is:
never-ending
There are days when I just want her to nap longer than exactly 2 hours like she does everyday.  There are times when I just want another person here so I can deep clean this house.  But as I find myself wishing for time alone, I have to remind myself that one day I will long for these moments with her.

Motherhood is:
breathtaking

Sometimes I'm amazed that Donny and I made such a beautiful baby.     Ever since I found out I was pregnant I wondered what our babies would look like.  I wondered what features they would inherit.  But I also thought, what if our baby isn't cute (is that possible).  I remember asking Don when I was pregnant.. "Will we know if the baby isn't cute, or will we think its cute because its ours."  And he said.."No we will know if its not cute, but it'll be ours."  Ha!!  Oh the honesty.
But really, I think all babies are cute, but this one just blows my mind.  She's this perfect mixture of us.  Whether its a concentrated stare, fast asleep, or an open mouthed laugh, she is my blonde hair blue eyed beauty!  She is going to grow into such a beautiful girl inside and out!

Motherhood is:
observant

Something about this sucking.  Its her concentration/sleepy/determined/soothing tongue sucking thing. Thats the only way we can explain it.  We have videos of her doing this under her activity gym when she was a few months old.  So when it popped out again over the past few months, we figured out its meaning.  When she is focusing hard on something she does it, but she also does it when she is tired, so I think it soothes her.  Beats the pacifier or thumb!!

Motherhood:
can be rough
A few weeks ago this lady and this Moma, had a rough patch.  She was hit (no pun intended -- keep reading) with a nasty sickness that just sucked the sweetness out of baby Mackenzie.  After an emergency visit to the pediatricians because of a temp over 103, she was diagnosed with Hand-Foot-Mouth disease.  Thankfully she never had the sores, but doc thought she had a sore throat since it was pretty red.  No sores was good, but over a few days, this developed into a pretty nasty cold.
But along with this cold came hitting, swatting, and flailing....All.day.long.  She just beat me up. Anytime things didn't go her way (which seemed to be everything) she hit.  I graded the day, based on how many times she hit me.  It was exhausting and nothing worked.  Thankfully she is feeling better and the hitting has decreased a ton...but it is still something we are working on!

Motherhood is:
watching your husband be the daddy you always knew he'd be

I'm not sure there is anything more amazing in my life then the way this little girl has stolen her daddy's heart.  His love for her is something you wish for for every baby.  And to watch her love him melts my own heart.  Almost everyday he is the first thing she asks for in the morning.  Some days when I think she is still napping, I'll hear "Da-da?"  then "Daaaaaaaaad?"
There is something about a guy and his baby girl, and I couldn't have picked a more perfect guy for both of us.
