2 Month Check-up

Kenzie had her 2 month check up yesterday...which include SHOTS! I must admit, I had slight anxiety about the day, knowing I was going to have to see her little sad face and hear her cry, *ahem* scream!  Well she is literally off the charts for her length at 24 1/2in long.  No wonder she is curling her toes in some of her 3 month clothes.  She is in the 85th percentile for her weight..12lbs 3oz.  Her pediatrician says she is perfect from head to toe.  Always a relief to hear, even though we were pretty confident she was.
Then onto those horrible shots.  She had 3 in her thighs and one she took orally.  Why don't they make all shots drinkable?  adults included?  And the screams weren't as bad as I thought, only because she couldn't even catch her breath she was crying so much.  It came out more like a gurgling squeal.  Regardless still horrible.  She was a little sassy the rest of the night, but today has been back to her completely loveable and smiley self.

Boppyness

2 Months Old!

Lookie Lookie who turned 2 months.  She has changed so much already, and as excited as I am to see an (even more) alert and smiley baby, it is sad to see her growing so fast.

It's not a race...

Well we've all heard the phrase "It's not a race, it's a marathon."  It can be applied to St. Patrick's Day celebrations, Thanksgiving dinner, and in my case losing the baby weight.  I gained about 30lbs with little Miss Mackenzie, and was lucky enough to have lost 20 of it by the time I came home from the hospital.  So now I've got these pesky 8-10 to lose.
Now I'm generally a pretty healthy eater (obviously) and although I'm getting my Masters in Exercise Science, I have to admit, I pretty much loathe working out!  But I'd like to tone up and get rid of the baby flub, possibly even run a 5K.   (Deep down I think, maybe if I publicly announce this, I'll stick with it!
So last week I made the first step and hit the treadmill.  As I stood there warming up, I couldn't help but remember the last time I was on it.  On January 25th, watching the 5 o'clock news, I was in that same spot, trying to walk that baby out of me!  I remember counting the contractions using the timer on the treadmill, gripping the handle in anticipation as the seconds tick by, knowing the start of a new contraction would be arriving.  Fast forward 8 weeks, I'm now watching the seconds tick by in the same dreaded anticipation of knowing my warm-up is done, and I need to up the speed!
Same thing with the exercise ball.  Last week I used it for ab work outs and stabilization resistance exercises, but 8 weeks ago, I sat on that thing, on the side of my hospital bed, really just to appease the nurse.  She said "some people say it helps with the pain."  Well, that thing did nothing for those contractions.  Epidural please!
So I'm hoping to begin to enjoy working out and trying to stay positive on this new "race" I'm running.  But I have to admit, the reason I'm racing is completely worth it!

Sleeping like a baby

Wahh!  My sincere apologies for my avid blog readers.  It has been a whole week since I've even posted something.  But I'm back, and have a few seconds so I'll entertain the masses.
Now I have these said few seconds, because little Miss Mackenzie is finally staying true to the term "sleeping like a baby."  Now I say finally like I've been waking up every half hour with her for the past 7 weeks.  Not true!  She really has been a great sleeper besides night one.  She had been getting up about every 4 hours, and after a quick changing and feeding, she was back to bed until morning.  Well let me just brag and tell you the past two nights she has slept from 10pm-8am....and since its 7:54am as I write this, maybe she'll surpass 8 o'clock!  I thought the first night was a fluke, since she swallowed all that fresh air on her first walk.  But two nights?..Could this be a routine?
During the day she isn't sleeping as much.  She is and everyone comments on how alert she is.  It seems she doesn't want to miss a thing (Who will have Aerosmith in their head all day now?)
So as my seconds dwindle away, I might as well go to the bathroom, eat some breakfast, and grab some laundry, since I may not be able to do these things later.

...and it is now 8:06 and she's still sleeping!

I spy with my little eye part 2

Once again I have made some realizations in my short time as a mom.
  1. I can not watch A Baby Story like I once could.
  2. Leather furniture is completely worth the money when it comes to projectile vomit.
  3. It should be against the law for public bathrooms to not have those wall hanging changing tables.
  4. Toothless smiles from Mackenzie melt your heart.  A toothless smile from anyone over the age of 1 would be scary.
  5. Wonders why Mackenzie sleeps through the night on nights her Dad is on duty.
